Following the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to follow a proper recruitment process, rather than direct appointment of support staff, there seem to be several interested candidates especially for the post of India’s head coach.
The BCCI had invited fresh applications for all the posts (including the team’s manager), with the present head coach, Ravi Shastri to also go through the recruitment process, despite being handed a 45-day extension for the West Indies tour.
The latest interested candidate for the post apparently, is the Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardena.
Mahela Jayawardena a good choice?
The latest interested addition to the list as per reports from Financial Express, is Jayawardena who is apparently interested to take it over from Ravi Shastri as the team’s head coach.
Jayawardena presently, is the coach of the most successful Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Mumbai Indians. The MI have, in fact won the title twice within three years under his able guidance.
“Some of the candidates who are likely to apply for the post of the head coach are Gary Kirsten, Mahela Jayawardena and Tom Moody, the report in Financial Express read.
Also, he might be a valuable recruit since he shares a decent bonding and camaraderie with India’s limited-overs vice-captain, Rohit Sharma. who is also the skipper of Mumbai Indians.
I feel that someone should be held accountable for the WC Campaign. So, firstly the selection committee should be dismissed ASAP. Then, The coaching staff should be changed . I feel someone like Tom Moody or Mahela Jayawardena would be a great selection as a coach. #TeamIndia

But, also as per reports, Jayawardena is also in the leads to be named the head coach of the Southampton-based franchise Southern Brave for The Hundred competition in England.
There is also speculation about Tom Moody being the one more interested for the job after the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended his seven-year stint with the franchise a few days ago, after roping in the England 2019 World Cup winning coach- Trevor Bayliss.
