Tendulkar and Sehwag wish Pujara

Tendulkar and Sehwag wish Pujara: The legendary opening duo of Tendulkar and Sehwag admired Pujara’s gritty innings.

India top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara scored his 16th test hundred in a fighting effort against Australia at Adelaide. Having walked in to bat at No. 3, Pujara was in the middle after a couple of overs into the series.

Pujara’s determined innings saw him witnessing other batsmen falling prey to poor shot selection on a wicket which wasn’t as difficult as the Indian batsman made it look like.

Starting the innings in his quintessential mode, Pujara absorbed all the pressure in the first two sessions of the day. Just when the Australians seemed to lower the intensity, Pujara cashed in on the opportunity to make a mark.

Having predominantly batted with the lower order batsmen, Pujara yet again proved as to why he remains India’s crisis man. It isn’t the first time when he has rescued India from a position which could have been detrimental for the whole match.

With this Indian innings being the first of the series, it had it in it to set the tone of the series. While the match is not completely in India’s favour, they still have posted a respectable total.

Pujara also achieved a special feat of becoming the 12th batsman to score 5,000 Test runs for India. Co-incidentally, he reached the mark in the same number of innings that former Indian legend Rahul Dravid take during his time.

While Pujara batted throughout the day, it was a masterpiece from Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins in the field which saw Pujara getting run-out by a fair distance. Pujara ended up scoring 123 (246) with the help of seven fours and two sixes.

Pujara’s knock saw him receiving accolades from some of the greats of the game on social media platform Twitter. Among them were former India opening duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Read their tweets below:
