Rafael Nadal seems to be using 2023 to set up his post-tennis life. The Spanish legend on Thursday announced that he will be associated with Infosys, the Indian-owned multinational tech giant with a market value of $72 billion. In a video, Nadal explained the factors behind this partnership which are related to the sport and beyond it.
Infosys has been the official technology and digital innovations partner of the ATP Tour since 2015, with their latest contract lasting till the end of this year. The company is also associated with the Australian Open and the French Open competitions in a similar capacity and both those deals will last till 2026. This is the first instance of Infosys opting for a player as a brand ambassador and seemed to have scored perfectly as their values coincide with those that Rafael Nadal himself believes in.
Nadal talks up Infosys’ impact
Rafael Nadal began by explaining how excited he was with this partnership, since he himself has experienced the company’s help when it comes to using data and analytics. That has made him and other players on the ATP Tour upgrade their strategies for a particular match or against any opponent in a simple manner. As a result, Nadal believes that Infosys has actually ‘transformed’ men’s tennis.
The Spanish superstar revealed that the company is coming up with a new technology that will create a virtual reality for the sport, the purpose being to engage fans with the sport. Interestingly, Infosys revealed in their official press release while announcing this association that it will be in partnership with Nadal when he returns on the ATP Tour by providing him with a technology for live match insights as well as an extensive database from past matches and about opponents that could enhance his chances of winning.
Moving on, Rafael Nadal then opened up about Infosys’ strong belief in directly impacting the sport as well as their long-standing belief in philanthropy. This is where they are similar since Nadal is personally invested in the Rafa Nadal Academy across many countries, which has helped develop many young, aspiring tennis players as well as assisted professional players for training ahead of major tournaments or in off season.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion did mention that his aim is not only to make aspiring players in his academy as better human beings and players but also educate them with ‘digital skills’, since being technology-proficient is vital for their careers both inside and outside of tennis. In the end, Rafael Nadal hinted that Infosys and him will be announcing a new project soon based on those lines. Interestingly, Infosys is known within French tennis circles for its ‘STEM’ program, which empowers youngsters in France to learn the benefits of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education with tennis as a tool.
