In a recent interview with the New York Times, Federer spoke about that concert and was quoted as saying –
“I met the band when I saw them in Montreal. I don’t know what year it was — maybe 2016? We’ve been in touch a bit. I’ve seen Chris Martin in the Hamptons several times. So when they came to Zurich, I reached out and said, ‘I’m so excited, I would love to come’. Chris wrote me back and asked if I wanted to come onstage. I asked my daughter at dinner, and she looked at me and said: ‘You have to do this. You only live once’. So I told Chris: ‘I’m in in! I didn’t even know what I had signed up for.”
Coldplay wasn’t Roger Federer’s last rodeo
In London, Roger Federer seemed to be having the time of his life. The tennis royalty was called on stage to perform with Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi at a concert in Hyde Park with these legendary singers at the British Summer Time Festival. Federer played percussion on their song Don’t Panic which was received by the audience extremely well. Around that time, the 8-time Wimbledon champion also witnessed an Elton John concert from the VIP section, while also getting the opportunity of getting photographed with him backstage.
With a number of initiatives, brand endorsements and other commitments outside the game of tennis, Roger Federer continues to keep himself occupied, which requires a lot of travelling. Most recently, Federer has been seen in New York City as part of a series of episodes shot by Uniqlo, the Japanese apparel brand that he endorses. He was also seen in the Wimbledon Royal Box as well as was the guest of honor in this year’s Halle Open, as on both the occasions, Federer was paid tribute to for his performances over the years in both the tournaments.
Apart from this, Federer has made appearances at events such as the Met Gala. He is also involved in the marketing and designs of brand ‘On’, which is a Swiss running shoes startup, in which he has a 3% stake. On social media, he has also posted about his trips to African countries due to his humanitarian work with the Roger Federer Foundation alongside his family.
