With just a few days left for the start of the Champions Trophy, defending champions, India, seem to be in good shape after a convincing victory over New Zealand in their first warm up game. But all might not be well in the background, as reports have emerged that there are tensions simmering between Kumble and the players in the Indian dressing room.

Just last week, the BCCI surprisingly asked for applicants for the post of the head coach of the Indian team. Many people believed that there was no need for a new coach, as Kumble has been delivering very good results with the team.

But apparently there are pertinent issues simmering just below the surface.
Many players in the team are reportedly unhappy with Kumble. They do not agree with Kumble’s authoritarian method of coaching which gives them a lack of freedom in the dressing room.
There have also been reports that Kumble is not happy with the fitness of some players in the dressing room, which has resulted in more discontent among the players.
Some of the players had reported the current situation to the BCCI, which is why the board invited applications for the head coach.

The board is also unhappy with Kumble’s constant demands. Both Kumble and captain, Virat Kohli had recently approached the BCCI over an increase in the player wages. The BCCI will take some time in this matter, as they mull over the best possible solution.
As fans, we can only hope that this does not affect India’s performance in the Champions Trophy. Here is hoping that both the team and the coaching staff can sort out their differences, and concentrate their efforts on helping India retain its title.
