Toni Kroos 'agreed' to come to United

Toni Kroos ‘agreed’ to come to United: Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that the German midfielder was set to join the club.

Manchester United have struggled ever since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. In the last five years, Manchester United have had three managers, and the club is currently 7th in the league, the same spot at which they finished in their first season after Sir Alex’s retirement.

David Moyes was chosen as the successor to Sir Alex after his retirement. The Scot struggled to bring the desired results and was eventually sacked before completing the season at the club.

Manchester United appointed Louis van Gaal as the permanent manager in 2014, and eventually signed Jose Mourinho two years later.

However, Moyes has now revealed that he was close to sign the-then Bundesliga star Toni Kroos for the 2014/15 season, before he was sacked as the manager of the club.

Toni Kroos ‘agreed’ to come to United – Moyes

In an interview with talkSPORT, David Moyes revealed that Toni Kroos had agreed to join Manchester United, and the transfer would’ve taken place at the end of the season.

“Toni Kroos had agreed to come Manchester United with me,” Moyes said. “I met him and his wife and we agreed it all when he was at Bayern Munich. But it was only going to get done at the end of the season before he joined Real Madrid.”

Moyes, however, could not make it till the end of the season as the club decided to part ways with him in April, appointing Ryan Giggs for the interim role till the end of the season.

“Do I feel I should have been given more time? Of course I do,” Moyes said. “To go to a club like Manchester United and follow someone like Sir Alex after the time he had been there, to stay for ten months..

“It couldn’t be a revolution at Manchester United, it had to be evolution. It had to take time.

Moyes stated that Manchester United kept winning things because they had a special manager, and things needed to be changed at the club.

“You look at the way Chelsea and Man City had been doing things and changing things along the way – Manchester United had been winning because they had a special manager and a special group of players.

“I wasn’t going to come in and change all the things Alex had done, but there were lots of things that had to be changed at the club.”
