Torreira on game vs Huddersfield: Arsenal’s midfielder and yesterday’s sole goalscorer Lucas Torreira spoke about the game.

Lucas Torreira’s incredible strike towards the closing stages of the game became the sole difference between Arsenal and Huddersfield last night.

Torreira scored his second goal for Arsenal in six days as he gave Arsenal the lead in the 83rd minute of the game.

With this win, Arsenal now have 34 points from 16 games. However, Unai Emery’s side remains 8 points behind the table toppers, Liverpool. Arsenal, however, remain 5th on the table as Chelsea registered a victory over Manchester City, while Tottenham defeated Leicester City.

However, Arsenal are still level on goal difference with Chelsea. Lucas Torreira talked about the game in an interview.

Lucas Torreira on win vs Huddersfield:

Lucas Torreira stated that the decision to perform an overhead kick was instinctual, and lauded Aubameyang for the cross.

“When the ball went to the back post, I saw Auba control the ball & got myself into the box because I thought he might put it straight back in. It was just the goalscorer’s instinct all players have – thankfully it came off & the goal meant we won the game.”

Torreira dedicated the goal for the fans, insisting that they show up every week to support the team.

“I am really happy, really happy. I work really hard throughout the week to make these moments happen at the weekend, because thats the most important thing.

“These goals help the team to keep winning & keep improving. We have a fantastic team & we enjoy playing together. The goal is for the fans too – they show up every week & follow us to all the stadiums. They are always there so this goal is for them first & foremost.”

Unai Emery also talked about Lucas Torreira’s work ethics, and stated that he is impressed with the midfielder’s commitment.

“Last week he scored & today he scored again. He has quality & his interpretation of the pitch tactically, & his perception in attacking moments & defensive moments [is very good]. He’s very fast in his mind & his feet too.

“He can do very good work in defensive moments &, like today and last week, he can also get into the box & score. He’s improving & working hard every day with a very big commitment, very good behaviour.

“He also has the commitment every day to learn English. I meet him every day in the dressing room & the first thing I notice is his commitment, his behaviour, & then he has quality & personality too.”
