Man Utd News: Dean Henderson has no interest in returning to Old Trafford following his impressive showing this season.
Manchester United are currently struggling to field a side of the quality that helped them earn their name and fame in the decades gone by. However, when it comes to the goalkeeping position, they have an embarrassment of riches at the moment.
David De Gea, is arguably the best Spanish goalkeeper at the moment, while Sergio Romero is undoubtedly Argentina’s number one choice between the sticks. The Argentine is currently the no.2 in the pecking order just behind De Gea.
However, 22-year old Dean Henderson, who is very quickly developing into England’s best goalkeeper, is knocking very loudly on Manchester United’s doors. His performance in the Premier League this season has warranted that the club cannot afford to feign deafness.
With the best goalkeepers from Spain, Argentina and England vying for one spot, United are in a pickle at the moment. While, Henderson is clearly the future, De Gea is their present. However, Henderson would rather stay at Bramall Lane than return to United if a starting spot is not guaranteed, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Dean Henderson has no interest in returning to Old Trafford
Dean Henderson is currently out on loan at Sheffield United, where he has spent the last two seasons. He has since established himself as the number one at Bramall Lane. He is currently tied with Nick Pope and Alisson at the top of the clean sheets table on 9.
To achieve what he has achieved, with a club that was promoted to the Premier League this season, speaks volume of his abilities of his abilities between the sticks. However, his path to Manchester United’s first side is blocked at the moment.
The shot-stopper is said to have told confidants of his desire to hone his trade away from United. At least, until they are ready to thrust him into the first-team. However, discussions with the club over his future are unclear at the moment.
He penned a new contract until 2022 last July but could yet stay at Sheffield United for another year to continue his development.
Despite never having played for Manchester United, Henderson is currently valued at around £30million. This puts him well beyond Sheffield United’s budget. This was acknowledged Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.
When asked if Henderson would return to Yorkshire on a permanent basis in the summer he said:
“His future is at Manchester United, no doubt. If the opportunity came about that figure would be huge.”
