Tottenham come away proud but Harry Kane will rue his big night at the Bernabeu

Back in 2010, Tottenham Hotspur had qualified for the Champions league and were enjoying their European adventure to the tilt. In the group stage, they went to the home of the then champions Inter Milan in an attempt to give their best and see how it goes.

That night is more fondly remembered as the night Gareth Bale decided to announce himself on the biggest stage in the world. The Welshman scored a brilliant Hat-Trick as Spurs drew the match 3-3 after being down by three goals in the first half.

It was one of those break out moments that every star has in his career, when he demands everyone to sit up and take notice of him. Heading into last night’s match against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, Harry Kane must have thought this was his going to be his breakout moment.

In the last three years, Harry Kane has gone from being a talented player to one of the best strikers in the world. The 24 year old Englishman has already become an integral part of Tottenham’s fabric and is fast becoming the face of English football.

Two back to back Golden Shoes have not gone unnoticed either as some of Europe’s elite have been closely following him. The critics said that Kane had to perform in Europe for him to be truly considered a world class player, something that the striker is doing this season.

Heading into last night’s game, Kane was pitted against Ronaldo in the pre match hype which is an achievement in itself for the English striker. Things looked great for Kane and Spurs as they took the lead in the first half.

For a moment people thought that Kane had back heeled Aurier’s cross into the net (which would have been one smashing way of announcing yourself!) before the replays showed that it was an own goal from Varane.

Kane’s big moment though came mid way through the second half as he was put through on goal by Llorente. You would have bet your house on the striker putting Tottenham into the lead, but was denied by a super save from Navas.

Head in hands Kane could not believe it as he knew that he fluffed his big moment. Sure it was a great save, but Kane would believe that he should have buried the chance.

After the game, the Spurs side seemed quite pleased with themselves as they showed their mettle at the home of the best club in the world. Kane though was seen sulking a little, as he looked forlorn while applauding the travelling Spurs fans.

Harry Kane looks destined to be a great, but his breakout moment would have to wait a little bit as the striker missed the chance to truly announce himself to the world.

But make no mistake about it, his moment will come!
