It’s been 12 years since the Indian football team won an overseas game, but tonight against Cambodia the Blue Tigers showed that history couldn’t faze them. Stephen Constantine had opted for a well balanced first 11 and the boys held tight to draft out a gritty win against an equally matched Cambodian side.
Goals from Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Sandesh Jhingan ensured that India romped to 3-2 win in Phnom Penh.
Sunil Chettri gave India the lead when he slotted home from a Lyngdoh corner in the 35th minute, but India couldn’t hold onto the lead for long as Laboravy equalised for Cambodia in the 38th minute.

Jeje powered India into the lead in the second half and India pushed for more. Jhingan scored a beautiful header in the 52nd minute to almost secure the tie for India, but the Cambodians kept coming back. A clever little goal from Vathanaka in the 62nd minute meant that the Indians needed to keep their wits about them to hold on to the one goal advantage. Despite huge pressure from Cambodia, India managed to grind out a win much to the credit of the centre backs.

No telecast certainly angered many fans
On a winning streak #CAMvIND @IndianFootball . But the worse part is no broadcast on any Indian TV channel. Reason: Its football.
