Saina Nehwal has crashed out of the first round of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur today. (Twitter erupts as both Saina and Sindhu suffer shock exits from the Malaysian Open !)
Sania was dumped out of the tournament by fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi 21-19, 13-21, 15-21 in a thrilling contest. This will be a huge disappointment for the former world number one as she is still taking time on her road to recovery.
Last week Saina lost to PV Sindhu in the quarterfinals of the India Open Superseries at the Siri Fort Complex in New Delhi.
The Japanese ace won the first game after a closely fought affair which she edged 21-19. The Japanese was all touch and placement as Sania struggled to keep up with her in the first game. (Twitter erupts as both Saina and Sindhu suffer shock exits from the Malaysian Open !)
But Sania bounced back in the second game as she took the game 21-13. The former world number seemed to be getting into her stride as she found some of her pre injury rhythm that had been missing in the last few weeks.
But Akane did not get demoralized and bounced back strongly in the final game. Her aggressive style of play was not matched by Saina as she took the game and the match.
PV Sindhu also suffered a shock opening round loss just 48 hours after her triumph in the India Open Superseries. She went down fighting to the Chen Yefi 21-18, 19-21, 17-21.
Here are the Twitter reactions to their losses ! (Twitter erupts as both Saina and Sindhu suffer shock exits from the Malaysian Open !)
