Twitter reactions on Avishka Fernando’s maiden ODI century: Twitter celebrated rookie Sri Lankan batsman’s maiden ODI century.

During the 39th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between Sri Lanka and West Indies at Chester-le-Street, Sri Lanka batsman Avishka Fernando registered his maiden ODI century in a marvelous batting effort.

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the 16th over, Fernando carried on his sublime touch in the tournament. Coming on the back of scoring 30 and 49 in his last two matches, Fernando eventually converted his start into a potentially match-winning innings.

Having scored 10 runs in his first 20 balls, Fernando got his eye in before playing his shots. Unlike other Sri Lankan batsmen, the 21-year old batsman didn’t give away his wicket and continue to march towards a career-best innings.

With Sri Lanka scoring 146/2 at the halfway mark, Fernando had scored 25* (35). It was on the penultimate delivery of the 33rd over that Fernando hit a boundary off West Indies fast bowler Oshane Thomas to bring up his half-century.

In a knock which comprised of all slashes, slog sweeps, drives and other shots, it was the fulcrum of the Sri Lankan innings. On the fourth delivery of the 47th over, Fernando ran a couple of runs off West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite to reach the three-figure mark.

Before getting out in the following over, Fernando scored 104 (103) with the help of nine fours and two sixes.
