Twitter reactions on Bangladesh beating South Africa: Twitter was exhilarated at Bangladesh causing an upset in their tournament opener.

During the fifth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between South Africa and Bangladesh at The Oval, Bangladesh defeated South Africa by 21 runs to start the tournament on an emphatic note.

Chasing a 331-run target, all of South Africa’s Top six batsmen got to starts but none of them converting the same is what costed Proteas the most. Wickets falling at regular intervals didn’t allow partnerships to develop and hence putting a halt to South Africa’s progress.

Just when things appeared daunting for them, middle-order batsmen in Rassie van der Dussen (41) and JP Duminy (45) tried their best but their best wasn’t enough for South Africa to seal the chase. South Africa ended up scoring 309/8 in 50 overs.

Captain Faf du Plessis, who came in to bat at No. 3 in the 10th over, top-scored for South Africa with his 33rd ODI half-century. Before getting out to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 27th over, du Plessis had scored 62 (53) with the help of five fours and a six. With bowling figures of 10-0-67-3, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of Bangladeshi bowlers.

After du Plessis won the toss and put Bangladesh in to bat, they scored their highest-ever ODI score – 330/6 in 50 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahman, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the 12th over, scored 78 (80) with the help of eight fours. His 142-run partnership for the third wicket with all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was instrumental in Bangladesh posting a formidable total.

With bowling figures of 10-0-52-2, South Africa all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo was their highest wicket-taker.
