Twitter reactions on Dinesh Karthik’s incredible 97 vs RR as he now makes a case for being India’s number 4 at the world cup

Dinesh Karthik came out to bat at number 4 for KKR tonight and showcased just what he can do with the bat when he is allowed the time to construct an innings.

Having been selected in the Indian world cup squad, DK needs some performances under his belt before the tournament in England and today’s innings would inspire a lot of confidence in the KKR setup and the Indian team management as well.

With Russell not firing today, the onus was on Dinesh Karthik to take the game deep and help KKR set a good enough total on that flat wicket in Eden Gardens.

The KKR captain obliged, using the pace of the wicket to good effect in his innings initially, helping the ball to the square boundaries, before teeing off at the end with some humongous hits.

He ended up with 97 and has given the KKR bowlers something to bowl at, as 175 is a par score on that batting friendly wicket in Kolkata. DK was extremely pleased with his innings, as he hadn’t really contributed a lot with the bat this season. KKR too would be happy that for the first time someone other than Russell contributed massively to the team’s cause.

Twitter was ecstatic with the innings, as they now feel that India have another worthy candidate for that number 4 slot, especially with Vijay Shankar not having fired in this year’s IPL.

On a couple of occasions KKR have found themselves with resources in the dug-out rather than in the middle. Maximising resources is at the heart of IPL success and so I am keen to see how they fare if Dinesh Karthik goes out to bat early.
