Twitter reactions on India scoring 92 in 4th ODI

Twitter reactions on India scoring 92 in 4th ODI: Twitter was furious after India were bowled out on 92 in the fourth ODI.

During the fourth ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand at Hamilton, India put on display a shambolic performance with the bat which saw them getting bundled out for 92 in 30.5 overs. Coming on the back of gaining an impenetrable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, such a batting collapse was the least expected form the Indian team.

After New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to field, the Indian batsmen had no answer whatsoever against a testing spell of bowling from Trent Boult. After a cautious start, India lost their first wicket in the form of Shikhar Dhawan (13), who was pinned in front of the stumps by a fuller delivery from Boult.

After tasting blood in the first powerplay, Boult made further inroads into the Indian batting line-up, dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma (7) and debutant Shubman Gill (9). Co-incidentally, both of them were caught and bowled by Boult in an identical manner.

By the time Gill was dismissed, New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme had already sent back India’s middle-order batsmen in Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik, both off loose shots.

At 33-5, the onus was majorly on the all-rounder-duo of Kedar Jadhav (1) and Hardik Pandya (16). It was such a day for the visitors that even they surrendered against Boult as India were further reduced to 55-8. It is worth mentioning that India had surpassed their lowest ODI total (54) by this time.

It was a 25-run stand for the ninth wicket between India’s wrist-spinners in Kuldeep Yadav (15) and Yuzvendra Chahal (18*) which aided India to near the 100-run mark. Leg-spinner Todd Astle and all-rounder James Neesham, who were brought into the squad for the last two ODIs, picked up a wicket each to put a halt to the Indian innings in the 31st over.

India’s fragmented batting unit ended up being part of an embarrassing record, breaking a 37-year old feat. The Top six Indian batsmen ended up scoring a total of 30 runs, which is their lowest in an overseas ODI. Earlier, it was 39 runs against England at The Oval in 1982.

The disheartening and third-rate batting performance by the Indian batsmen allured plentiful criticizing remarks for them on social media platform Twitter. Read some of them below:
