During the sixth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between England and Pakistan at Trent Bridge, England batsman Joe Root scored his 15th ODI century in a spectacular effort.
Chasing a 349-run target, Root came in to bat at No. 3 in the third over. Battling it out against a stern bowling attack comprising of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz, Root remained unperturbed by wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end.
On the last delivery of the 19th over, Root ran a single off Mohammad Hafeez to complete his half-century. Playing an anchoring role, this was the time when it looked that England can seal the chase despite losing Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan.
Even when wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler was smashing the opposition bowlers around the park, Root stuck to his natural game and didn’t get carried away with all that was happening at the other end.
On the second delivery of the 38th over, Root ran a single off Riaz to reach the three-figure mark. It is worth mentioning that Root has become the first batsman to score a century in this World Cup.
Root sharing a 130-run partnership for the fifth wicket alongside Buttler has it in it to become the game-changing moment for the hots. Before getting out to Pakistan leg-spinner Shadab Khan in the 39th over, Root scored 107 (104) with the help of 10 fours and a six.

Getting to be fascinating contest. Root may not have the pyrotechnics of Bairtstow and Butler, but is the pivot around which team revolves. Terrific century to hold the innings together after Pak had made early inroads. Now that’s fallen, match opens up again…
