Twitter reactions on Prithvi Shaw's replacement

Twitter reactions on Prithvi Shaw’s replacement: The opening batsman’s injury has added to India’s selection conundrums.

Only two days into playing cricket’s ancestral format during the ongoing India’s tour of Australia and India have seen two of their players rolling their ankles during the match. While fast bowler Umesh Yadav did it during running in to bowl yesterday, it happened with opening batsman Prithvi Shaw today morning.

In which was an act of fortune, Yadav survived any injury scare. However, Shaw ended up being ruled out of the first Test match to be played from December 6 at Adelaide.

The update has come as a significant blow for team India for Shaw was their first-choice opener for the first Test. With Lokesh Rahul registering inconsistent numbers in the recent times and Murali Vijay having yet to play a match in Australia, India have a new conundrum at hand regarding their top order.

Shaw’s injury has increased the opinions on batting India’s vice-captain in limited-overs format Rohit Sharma at the top of the order. There is no hiding to the fact that Sharma was included into the squad for his impressive ‘back-foot’ game. As exciting as the idea sounds from the outside, it involves a great amount of risk and thrill for the question is regarding sending someone, who has never opened in Test cricket before, to open the batting in the first Test of the tour of Australia.

While Sharma’s career saw a turnaround after he started opening the batting in limited-overs, you never know if the same happens to him in the Test cricket as well. However, to execute the move will require a great amount of courage on the part of captain Virat Kohli and the team management.
