Twitter reactions on Rohit Sharma's 38th ODI half-century

Twitter reactions on Rohit Sharma’s 38th ODI half-century: Twitter was elated as the Indian vice-captain scored yet another ODI century.

During the second ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, India vice-captain and opening batsman Rohit Sharma scored his 38th ODI half-century to surpass former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag (37).

Among the Indian batsmen, the 31-year old right-hand batsman has now reached on the eight position in terms most ODI half-centuries for India.

Sharma, who got out cheaply in the first ODI at Napier, made optimum use of the prevailing conditions today. Opening the batting with Shikhar Dhawan, the duo stitched a 154-run opening partnership.

There is no hiding to the fact that Sharma rode his luck initially. On the first ball of the match, Sharma’s loosely drove a Trent Boult delivery which ended up reaching the boundary through the third-man region. With Dhawan also playing his shots, run-scoring became comparatively easy for both of them.

Having scored six four in the first powerplay, Sharma unleashed a massive six off New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi in the 13th over. In the 18th over, Sharma hit a colossal hit over backward square leg off Lockie Ferguson to complete both his half-century and the 14th century partnership with Dhawan.

In Ferguson’s subsequent over, Sharma hit another six off him as he looked set to put on board another daddy hundred. Having said that, it didn’t happen as he fell short of the milestone by 13 runs.

On the third delivery of the 30th over, Sharma’s attempt to hit another big shot off Ferguson saw him hitting the ball straight to New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme at deep square leg. He ended up scoring 87 (96) with the help of nine fours and three sixes.

Sharma’s innings was widely appreciated by his fans on social media platform Twitter. Read some of those tweets below:
