Twitter reactions on Rohit Sharma's gritty hundred vs South Africa | ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Twitter reactions on Rohit Sharma’s gritty hundred: Twitter was exhilarated on watching the Indian vice-captain score his 23rd ODI century.

During the eighth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between South Africa and India at Southampton, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma registered his 23rd ODI century to lead the chase for his team.

Opening the batting with Shikhar Dhawan, Sharma remained a tad fortunate initially. In what was a testing phase against the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris, a determined Sharma was at his absolute best when it came to putting on display a stern test.

Despite India losing Dhawan (8) and captain Virat Kohli (18), Sharma continued to battle it out in the middle. Knowing the target (228) in front of him wasn’t a monumental one, Sharma didn’t give the impression of taking unnecessary risks in the middle.

On the penultimate delivery of the 23rd over, Sharma ran a single down the ground off Tabraiz Shamsi to complete his half-century. In the general run of things, Sharma usually changes gears after crossing the 50-run mark. But the same wasn’t to be today.

The 32-year old cricketer continued in the same manner, giving due respect to the opposition bowlers. Perhaps, it was the presence of former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni which didn’t let Sharma lose his composure.

On the penultimate delivery of the 41st over, Sharma ran a single off Shamsi to complete his century. At the time of writing this article, India require 52 runs to win in nine overs with seven wickets remaining.
