Twitter reactions on Shikhar Dhawan’s 14th ODI century: Twitter celebrates the Indian opener’s 14th ODI century.

During the fourth match of the ongoing Asia Cup between Hong Kong and India at Dubai, Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has scored a century to announce his arrival back in form. Having struggled big time during the tour of England, this innings was a much needed affair for both Dhawan and the Indian team.

Earlier Anshy Rath, captain of Hong Kong, had won the toss and chose to field. Putting an end to the convolution regarding India’s playing XI, India eventually rested Lokesh Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Hardik Pandya, all of whom were present in the Test series against England.

Giving a break to Hardik Pandya meant that India had to opt for an extra bowler in debutant Khaleel Ahmed, who became the 222nd ODI cap for India. The reason why these changes were made were due to tomorrow’s fixture where India will be seen taking on Pakistan at the same venue. Giving the hot weather of Dubai and two back to back matches, such measures were meant to be taken.

Opening the batting alongside captain Rohit Sharma, Dhawan was cautious at the start of the innings but made his start count especially after Rohit Sharma was out in the first 10 overs. Dhawan stitched a 116-run partnership for the second wicket with Ambati Rayudu, who also made a comeback half-century.

Dhawan’s innings was a blend of both boundaries and runs between the wickets. Some might argue that this innings has come against a harmless bowling attack. Even after considering it into mind, it is surely a positive sign for India, especially a day ahead of their all-important match against Pakistan.

Dhawan eventually completed his century on the last delivery of the delivery of the 36th over. With this hundred, he has also Virender Sehwag as the joint fourth-highest century maker by an opening batsman for India.
