Twitter reactions on Shubman Gill's ODI debut

Twitter reactions on Shubman Gill’s ODI debut: Twitter was elated at the sight of teenager making his ODI debut at Hamilton.

Shubman Gill, who has been doing the rounds in India’s domestic circuit since winning the ‘Man of the Series’ award in ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2018, has finally been rewarded for his consistent performance across formats and conditions.

The 19-year right-hand batsman was handed an ODI debut during the ongoing fourth of India’s tour of New Zealand at Hamilton. Gill received his ODI cap from former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After India gained an impenetrable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, it was expected that they team management would try the reserves for the remaining two ODIs. While there were murmurs of the same happening in the fifth ODI, stand-in captain Rohit Sharma cleared the air when he announced the same during the toss.

“Shubman Gill makes his debut, Khaleel is in for Shami. [Gill is a] very promising talent. He has shown a lot of promise in the past. We are looking to bat first as well. We wanted to get some bases covered before the next series. 3-0 is a great achievement. And we want to finish off really well,” Sharma said on Gill’s debut, his potential and the series during the toss.

Playing his 200th ODI for India, Sharma has become the 14th Indian cricketer to achieve the milestone. “Yeah, 200th game is special. Lots of ups and downs but I am happy where I am,” Sharma was quoted as saying about the same.

Having heard the development of a regular run-scorer making his India debut, numerous fans were exhilarated to watch Gill at the highest level. Read some Twitter reactions on his debut below:
