RCB severely criticized for scoring 70-10 vs CSK

RCB severely criticized for scoring 70-10 vs CSK: Twitter lashed out at RCB after they were bundled out for 70 in 17.1 overs in the season opener.

During the first match of the 12th season of the ongoing Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chennai, Royal Challengers were bundled out on 70 in 17.1 overs. RCB’s shambolic performance saw the season commencing on an unexpected note.

After Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to field, things gave the impression of working for him from the word go. The veteran captain’s ploy of playing an extra spinner in Harbhajan Singh worked well for him as Harbhajan ended up registering bowling figures of 4-0-20-3.

Having played a total of three matches since the last IPL, the 38-year old cricketer made early inroads into RCB’s batting line-up. After dismissing Royal Challengers captain Virat Kohli (6) in the fourth over, Harbhajan dismissed Moeen Ali (9) and AB de Villiers (9) in his subsequent overs.

With Bangalore being restricted to 39-4 in the eighth over, the visitors never really got the much-needed momentum. With their middle-order batsmen failing miserably against Chennai’s spinners, RCB never really looked certain to post a competitive total.

Post Harbhajan’s stellar performance, leg-spinner Imran Tahir took over the mantle on to himself. Having dismissed Shivam Dube (4), Navdeep Saini (2) and Yuzvendra Chahal (4), Tahir ended up registering figures of 4-1-9-3.

Wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel, who opened the batting with Kohli, top-scored for RCB. Before becoming the last batsman to be dismissed, Patel ended up scoring 29 (35) with the help of two fours.
