Twitter reacts as Bajrang Punia wins India’s first gold medal at the Asian Games 2018.

Bajrang Punia put out a strong performance on the opening day at the Asian Games 2018 as he won India’s first gold medal. The Indian wrestler won almost all his bouts, bar the final against Daichi Takatani one-sidedly.

The final between Punia and Takatani finished in a close 10-8 win for the Indian wrestler, as Takatani scored points through consistent attacks on Punia’s legs, which have been a major weakness in his attacking gameplay. Punia, however, showed cleverness and emerged the Japanese with a brilliant combination of strength and skill to win the gold medal.

With this win, Punia has now won gold medals in both the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games this year.

This win is also significant for Punia because he lost to Daichi Takatani in the Asian Championships earlier this year.
