England debutant Tyrone Mings 1st match in England colors was marred with racism and abuse from the home fans who made him the target of their abhorrence. England walked away not once but twice from the pitch before returning to complete the 6-0 humiliation of the home team.
Captain Harry Kane approached referee Ivan Bebek to inform him of abuse from the stands. The first step of UEFA’s three-step racism protocol was then triggered at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia as an announcement was made over the speakers demanding the racist chanting stop.
“Because of racist behaviour which is interfering with the game, the referee has indicated he may have to suspend the match.” the announcer said.
“Please be in no doubt that the game may be suspended and abandoned if racist behaviour continues.”

A heart wrenching video of Tyrone Mings asking the fourth official if he can hear what the racists fans are saying is doing the rounds of the internet right now. In the video, the racism is not very clear. However, Mings definitely heard something and took objection to it.
Further in the video you can see disrespectful fans throwing Nazi Salutes in the air very proudly.

Your debut stays with you, whether it was unforgettable or laughable. And unfortunately for Mings, his will stay with him too, despite being as disgraceful as it was. To Mings credit though, the 26-year old was class in the interviews after. Hopefully, he ends up having a long career with the 3 lions, filled with much more fulfilling moments.
