"I came prepared for the war" - Khabib Nurmagomedov on his post-fight brawl after 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor Fight at UFC 229

Conor McGregor responds to ‘disrespectful’ tweet from Khabib Nurmagomedov following his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

Conor McGregor had a less than stellar outing at UFC 257. The former two division Champion lost to Dustin Poirier in his first match since taking on Donald Cerrone last January. This prompted a comment from long time rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“This is what happened, when you change your team, leave the sparring partners who made you a champion and sparring with little kids, far away from reality,” Khabib wrote on Twitter. The Notorious was made aware of the comment during a press conference and promptly responded to it.

“My team has been the team since Day 1. I have not changed anything. It is what it is. Respect the athletes,” McGregor said.

“That’s the character of the man, for sure, behind the mask. Whatever, what’s he want to do? Does he want to come back or no? If he wants to have his disrespectful comments, come back and let’s go again, my man. I’m here for it. That’s fighting talk.”

Earlier in the night, McGregor started strong against Poirier. The first round seemed to have gone in his favor. However, Poirier managed to turn things around and win the bout in the second round itself.

“His leg kicks were good, my leg was dead and I wasn’t as comfortable as I needed to be,” McGregor said after the fight. “I have to dust it off and come back and that’s what I’ll do.

“I’m gutted, it’s a tough one to swallow, I just want to go back to the hotel and chill with my kids and regroup.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
