Valtteri Bottas: Watch Australian GP winner tell his engineer he wants the fastest lap point, as he shows ho determined he is this season.
Valtteri Bottas scripted one of the best wins of his career at the Australian GP today, overtaking Lewis Hamilton at the start, going into turn 1 and then maintaining track position all through(except when he was in the pits).
Bottas managed his car and the tyres to perfection, driving seamlessly and finishing close to 22 seconds ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.
The Finn was ecstatic after the race, as in the 2018 season he had endured some tough times, largely due to luck not being on his side. But having worked on his conditioning and mental strength in the off-season, Valtteri Bottas seems to be fully charged up for the 2019 season.
BOTTAS: “I don’t know what just happened… I don’t know what to say! It was definitely my best race ever. I felt so good and the car was so good” #AusGP 🇦🇺 #F1 pic.twitter.com/FUsLl3vArN

While Bottas was driving pretty well last season, he seemed to be missing that killer instinct that his teammate Lewis Hamilton showed all along.
However, today was different, with Bottas even telling his engineer that he desperately needed that extra fastest lap point(one that has been introduced today).
The little exchange on the radio showed how much this season means to Valtteri Bottas and how he is ready to go that extra mile to secure any kind of supremacy on the driver’s standings.

Bottas is told he still holds the fastest lap, and that Mercedes doesn’t want to take any risks so won’t be pitting him again.”Copy, but I want 26 points so I’m going to go for it,” is the race leader’s reply. #F1

With the season now moving onto Bahrain, Valtteri Bottas would be hoping he can script another such race and extend his lead at the top of the driver’s standings.
