Victor Lindelof: Man Utd reply to Barcelona's transfer request for Red Devils defender | Man Utd Transfer News

Barcelona have made an enquiry for Victor Lindelof, but the Red Devils are coy on keeping him at Old Trafford.

Barcelona have reportedly made an enquiry to Manchester United over Victor Lindelof, but the Red Devils are insistent keeping him. The Swedish International was signed by Jose Mourinho from Benfica in 2017 and his prominence came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Spanish side have given up on Matthijs De Ligt, who is demanding a ludicrous salary. Additionally, his agent Mino Raiola, who likes to play hardball, is set to be the major stumbling block in this deal. This has forced them to assess for alternates rather than paying a hefty sum for the Dutch defender.

Manchester United’s centre-back Victor Lindelof was set to be on the shortlist. The 24-year-old will be a good choice for Ernesto Valverde to rotate because of Gerard Pique’s age and the inconsistency show from Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti. Jean Clair-Todibo is signed, but he is anticipated to feature only in the cup competitions.

According to Mundo Deportivo, when Barcelona approached Manchester United for Victor Lindelof, the Red Devils replied “No Thanks”.

The Swede has gone on to make 69 appearances for the club in two seasons. Under the management of the fellow Scandinavian, Lindelof has firmly established his name in the starting lineup, whilst the Red Devils continue to search for a partner for the former Benfica defender at the back.

Lindelof believes that the club must get the transfer done before the kick start of pre-season. That would help the incomer to settle in and gel with the squad.

“Pre-season is very important for the team,“ said Lindelof. “New players come in and meet the group and I think it’s vital, especially this season, that we’re altogether in the beginning and work through things we want to do and the things we want to improve, so yeah I would say pre-season is very important.

“When I had just signed for the club, it was important for me to meet and bond with all the players and staff, see what kind of personalities there are and see how the club worked. I really enjoyed it.”

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Victor Lindelof is likely to stick with the Red Devils for the upcoming season until something dramatic happens.
