Virat Kohli comments on MS Dhoni's last-over heroics

Virat Kohli comments on MS Dhoni’s last-over heroics: Royal Challengers captain eulogized about Super Kings’ captain’s insane knock.

After leading his team to a 1-run victory in a cliffhanger against Chennai Super Kings at Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli admitted the rush of emotions after the match.

“A whole lot of emotion. We were outstanding with the ball until the 19th over mark. On the last ball, that [run-out] was the last thing I would’ve expected to happen. Feels good to win a game by a small margin,” Kohli was quoted as saying.

After being restricted to 32/4 in the powerplay, Chennai required 105 runs in the last 10 overs. Despite CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scoring 24 runs in the last over, the visitors ended up on the losing side.

“MS [Dhoni] did what he does best and he gave us all a massive scare. In the first six overs, we thought the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat that much,” Kohli eulogized about Dhoni’s 84* (48) with the help of five fours and seven sixes.

“PP and AB started to rebuild”

Opening the batting with wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel, Kohli was dismissed in the third over after scoring 9 (8). The RCB skipper also praised the manner in which Patel and senior batsman AB de Villiers batted post his dismissal.

“PP [Parthiv Patel] and AB [de Villiers] started to rebuild. At the halfway mark we thought 175 would’ve been a very good total on this pitch. We thought we were 15 short. We thought their bowlers didn’t make us play enough on the front foot,” Kohli added.

Royal Challengers faced a lot of criticism for sending in-form all-rounder Moeen Ali at No. 6 in the 16th over. Being asked about the same, Kohli said, “Looking in hindsight, you could say Moeen could’ve come higher. Those things sometimes they come your way and sometimes they don’t.”

Both Bangalore’s Indian bowlers in Yuzvendra Chahal and Navdeep Saini registered individual figures of 4-0-24-1. The duo bowled well under pressure especially with Dhoni looking to go against them. Laying emphasis on the pair showing composure, Kohli was head appreciating their efforts.

“They [Chahal and Saini] showed a lot of composure playing against a side like CSK. Especially Saini. He’s [Saini] come along well for the team,” Kohli concluded.
