And with his statements on Sharma’s innings today and form throughout the tournament, India captain Virat Kohli showed that he is among one of the biggest admirers of the skill set Rohit possesses in his repertoire. Sparing no expense in appreciating his deputy’s abilities as a batsman, Kohli went on to call him the best batsman in the world.
“I have been watching it [Rohit Sharma’s batting] for years now. He’s the best One-day player around and we are so delighted to see him. When he plays like that, everybody is happy to see him strike this so well,” Kohli was quoted as saying during the post-match presentation ceremony.

The words were a huge statement from a batsman who himself is widely regarded as not only today’s but one of the best batsman to have doled out his expertise in the cricketing fraternity. The showering of praise from Kohli on the Indian opener only further goes onto ascertain the high stature Sharma accords in the world of cricket at the moment.
Sharma’s 26th ODI century today saw him become the first Indian to score four centuries in a World Cup, also becoming the first Indian batsman to cross the symbolic milestone of 1,000 runs in 2019.
