Indian captain talks on Kedar Jadhav’s fitness: Virat Kohli was vocal about all-rounder’s fitness and overall combination for tournament opener.

It is finally time for India to take field in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Tagged as the ‘favourites’, India will be the last team to play their first match.

Indian captain talks on Kedar Jadhav’s fitness

Speaking during the press conference on the eve of India’s tournament opener against South Africa at Southampton, India captain Virat Kohli addressed multiple issues. Among the key issues of his conversation were opening up on all-rounder Kedar Jadhav’s fitness and the bowling combination.

Jadhav had succumbed to a shoulder injury while playing for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Since then, the 34-year old cricketer is yet to play a competitive match. “It’s nice to have Kedar Jadhav back in the mix. He’s batting and bowling well.

“[Ravindra] Jadeja is a good player to have. I think we’re well equipped for this match,” Kohli was quoted as saying on being asked about Jadhav’s fitness. If reports are to be believed, there will be a toss-up between Jadhav and Jadeja to bat at No. 6 for India tomorrow.

On bowling combination

Talking about the bowling combination, Kohli didn’t precisely disclose the final combination but put it down to conditions. That being said, the Indian skipper didn’t rule out the possibility of playing three fast bowlers if the conditions demand the same.

During the presser, Kohli also laid emphasis on finally getting to play a match. Not taking the showpiece event lightly, Kohli talked about the difference in playing a bilateral series and a World Cup. “Looking at the length and format of the World Cup, it’s a huge challenge. It’s very tough. Game situation awareness is very important,” Kohli said.
