Virat Kohli ruled out of Surrey county stint due to neck injury

Virat Kohli’s plans for the English conditions took a severe hit when was diagnosed with a neck injury after the IPL came to an end.

Kohli was scheduled to play for Surrey in a bid to get himself acclimatised with the English conditions before the big England tour kicked in, but those plans were shot down dead due to Virat’s neck problem and he will now have to settle for those T20’s in Ireland in order to get ready for England.

Kohli won’t be available for that historic Afghanistan test but could be fit for the Ireland T20s.

The Indian skipper was initially going to miss the Ireland games because of his county commitments but now that he is not going to play for Surrey, he is trying to get himsef ready for that initial Ireland tour.

Reports in the Times of India state that Kohli could regain full fitness by mid-june and is expected to undergo a fitness test on June 15.

His participation in the Ireland series would be dependent on that fitness test but according to the present situation he should be able to clear that fitness test.

The BCCI official who provided the update to Times of India stated that Virat is trying his best to get fit for the national side in time.

“Surrey was an option; the England tour is a responsibility. He’s taken a break whenever there was a need for it. That’s why he sat out of the last T20 in South Africa and did not play in the Nidahas Trophy. It shows that priorities are well in place. It’s unfortunate that Virat hasn’t been able to leave for Surrey but recovering fully in time is the more important thing,” the BCCI official said, as reported by Times of India
