Virat Kohli on captaincy

Virat Kohli on captaincy: In a recent interview, Indian captain Virat Kohli disclosed that he has best learnt the craft from MS Dhoni.

Virat Kohli, India’s captain in all formats of the game, has made public the fact that he has chiefly learnt the art of captaincy from former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

During an interview with Wisden, Kohli laid emphasis on observing numerous things from Dhoni while standing right next to him in slips. Additionally, he also spoke about how Dhoni has been a great inspiration for him and other members of the team.

On being asked about him following any other captain in international cricket, Kohli was quoted, “Not really anyone before MS. I was always someone who kept talking to him about the game so even when I was really young before I was made vice-captain, I would give him my suggestions.”

Kohli also added that he loves thinking about the game and works on other mental aspects related to the game. “I love thinking about the game and that’s why I enjoy captaincy so much and I enjoy chasing totals so much – I love using my brain to figure out what needs to be done during the game. I’ve learned the most from MS, standing so close to him at slip so many times and just observing him at close quarters”, he added.

This is neither the first time when any player has expressed admiration for Dhoni nor is the first time when Kohli appreciated Dhoni’s contribution to his personal game. Several current and past Indian cricketers have cited Dhoni the reason behind the success of other contemporary players and eventually the team.

Yesterday, Kohli became only the third cricketer to be conferred with the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. Read some of the Twitter reaction on the same below:
