Despite not playing the ongoing T20I series against Australia, former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni somehow manages to allure opinions on himself day in and day out. It is also something which speaks highly about the aura of the 37-year old cricketer.
One of the major reasons behind Dhoni getting dropped and the occurrence of all these statement is his recent form. Going by his recent ODI numbers, the year 2018 has been the worst for him as a batsman.
Among the other major point of discussion is Dhoni no longer remaining the player that he once was. If a part of the audiences criticize his paltry numbers with the bat into contention, the other group constantly lays emphasis on him adding value to the team in many other ways that merely scoring runs with the bat.

There is no hiding to the fact that Dhoni adds more to the team than just the runs scored by him and that his experience can be vital for India going into the world event. Having said that, one also can’t ignore the fact that he needs to be among the runs for you can’t afford to continue with an out-of-form No. 5 wicket-keeper batsman.

Recently, two former Pakistani captain in Ramiz Raja and Shahid Afridi advocated for Dhoni’s position in the Indian team leading up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Post the Pakistani duo, former India batsman has spoken highly of Dhoni, stating him to be the best wicket-keeper in the world.
“MS Dhoni is a legendary player and I believe he will have a big role to play in the 2019 World Cup. He is the best wicket-keeper in the world without a doubt, even now. He is supremely fit,” Laxman was quoted as saying in an interview with Aaj Tak.
Apart from leading Chennai Super Kings to a third IPL title earlier this year, Dhoni was in sublime form in the cash-rich tournament. Laxman further opined that Dhoni should play with ‘freedom’, believing in his natural game.
“I am excited with the way he batted in the IPL this year. If he goes out and plays with such freedom, he is still a dangerous player. If he plays his natural game and expresses himself, I am confident he will be very successful in the 2019 World Cup,” Laxman added.
