Football is a game of life and death for many. Unfortunately, that phrase almost took a very literal turn last weekend at the Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil when a fan fell 40 feet and landed on two fans; one of whom was a 13-year old girl.

He was attempting to climb on the upper railing of the stadiums upper deck. He then unexpectedly loses his grip and falls on the two other spectators who were seated at the lower deck. They were rushed to the hospital and incredibly survived the episode.

The 13-year old girl, identified as Giovana Santos Araujo has miraculously come out unscathed. Melo Rios however, wasn’t as fortunate with reports coming out that he has suffered a broken femur.

Per Sun, Rios mother Lilian Barcelos de Melo told local media:

“His girlfriend called me and said she had seen it on the internet.

“She saw that someone had fallen in the stadium.

“She called him straight away and someone answered the phone saying that it was him who had fallen from the top tier of the Morumbi, just minutes after it happened. It was a real scare.”

She has since confirmed “he is well” and that all his vital organs are “stable”.

Talk about a close shave.

Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all.
