Alex Carey gets hit by vicious bouncer off Jofra Archer during the second semi-final of 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup at Edgbaston

During the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between England and Australia at Edgbaston, England’s speedster Jofra Archer hit the Aussie wicket-keeper batsman Alex Crey with an absolutely vicious bouncer directed at his helmet’s grill to bamboozle the 27-year-old.

It all happened on the final delivery of the eight over. England pacers were right on the money as they dismissed both the in-form openers- David Warner (9 off 11) and skipper Aaron Finch (0 off 1) within the first five overs. In the midst of some aggressive pace bowling, Archer hit Carey right on his chin and was survived a massive injury scare courtesy his helmet’s grill.

Talking about the delivery- it was an absolute ripper bowled by Archer as the ball climbed on to him. The Southpaw, in fact played it pretty well as he dropped his wrists down to prevent a possible leading edge. But, in the process the sheer pace of the delivery meant that Carey had no time whatsoever to sway away from the ball, as he ultimately got hit dead straight on his helmet. The bouncer was such a snorter that the helmet came off his head to land in Carey;s palm.

Carey gets his chin bandaged

The 27-year-old spontaneously signalled his physio as his chin started bleeding immediately post the blow. Fortunately for everyone, Carey was not handed a massive injury scare as he resumed batting with his chin bandaged. Carey has been one of the better performers for Australia in their World Cup campaign so far, and the Aussie camp would hope that the wicket-keeper batsman bails his team out of trouble again.

At the time of writing, Australia were battling it out in the middle with Alex Carey (25* off 45) and Steve Smith (34* off 53) present at the crease with a score of 78/3 posted on the board off 20 overs.
