WATCH: Alex Ross nearly grabs catch of the millennium in Hurricanes vs Thunder BBL match
Alex Ross nearly grabs catch of the millennium: The Thunder’s batsman put on display an incredible fielding effort at the boundary.
During the 50th match of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder in Hobart, Sydney Thunder batsman Alex Ross put on display an incredible fielding effort at the boundary.
Despite Ross eventually not taking the catch, the effort which he put to dismiss Hurricanes batsman Macalister Wright will go down easily among the best fielding efforts of this season.
It all happened on the second delivery of the fifth over when Wright aerially flicked a delivery from Sydney pacer Gurinder Sandhu. Ross, who was fielding at deep square leg, ran hard to his right to grab the ball, throw it back into the playing area, attempt another try at the catch before unfortunately failing to collect the ball.
Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the first over itself, Wright stitched a 97-run partnership for the second wicket alongside captain Matthew Wade.
While Wade scored 56 (34) with the help of six fours and two sixes, it was Wright who top-scored for the hosts for the second time in a row. In what is his second half-century in his third match, Wright ended up scoring 64 (45) with the help of four fours and three sixes.
After Wade won the toss and chose to bat, Hobart posted 185/6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. With bowling figures of 4-0-34-4, Thunder all-rounder Daniel Sams was the pick of their bowlers.
