WATCH: Chris Gayle announces participation in Everest Premier League 2020

Chris Gayle announces participation: The Universe Boss will take part in the fourth season of the Everest Premier League.

Universe Boss Chris Gayle has announced his participation in the fourth season of the Everest Premier League, Nepal’s domestic T20 competition. It is worth mentioning that the 40-year old player will represent Pokhara Rhinos in the tournament which will commence from February 29.

Previously, Gayle had announced his international retirement after the third ODI of India’s tour of West Indies last year. The Indian team congratulating the southpaw was perceived as indication of that match being Gayle’s last.

Having said that, Gayle decided to take a U-turn on his international retirement soon enough as he made himself available for West Indies until further notice right after the match.

While Gayle hasn’t played international cricket since then, he represented Jozi Stars in the Mzansi Super League and Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League. In the recently concluded season of the BPL, Gayle scored 144 runs in four matches at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 138.46.

Gayle made the development regarding the Everest Premier League public via a video which was published by ESPNcricinfo on social media platform Twitter.

“What’s up Nepal? It’s Chris Gayle, the Universe Boss and the King of T20. I will be visiting Nepal for the biggest sporting event Everest Premier League. Come and support my team Pokhara Rhinos and be a part of a magnificent cricket fiesta. Nepal, get ready for the Gayle storm,” Gayle is quoted as saying in the video.

Having made their debut in the tournament in 2017, Pokhara Rhinos finished their first season as the fourth-ranked (out of six) team. The last season in 2018 saw them finishing last on the back of losing all the five matches that they played in the tournament.
