After being heavily criticized for years, Messi proved the doubters wrong as he scored a brilliant Hat Trick to ensure Argentina’s progress into the World Cup.

Things looked bad when Ecuador scored first within 40 seconds of the match, as Messi could see his dream of playing in one more World Cup slipping away.

There is no doubt that the lack of a World Cup will forever be an asterisk sign against Messi’s name whenever a debate arises about who is the greatest player of all time.

Ronaldo made a huge claim last year when his Portugal side won the Euros, while Messi’s Argentina lost two Copa America finals and the World Cup final in 2014.

So it was imperative for Messi to take his team to the World Cup, which he duly did. The celebrations were wild on the pitch but were nothing compared to what happened in the dressing room after the match.

Messi led the celebrations as the Argentine side wildly celebrated their passage into Russia next year. The coaching staff and the team management were singing songs as the rest of the players danced to their tunes.
