Real Madrid went into last night’s Champions League fixture with a sense of desperation, searching for an outlet to vent out all their frustration that had been building up ever since the start of this year’s La Liga campaign.
Nothing was going right for them, from injuries, to Ronaldo’s goalscoring record, to refereeing blunders; but the Champion’s League presented them with a glimmer of hope, as Real Madrid had made it their own competition in the last 4 years.
CrIstiano Ronaldo would have been itching to get on the pitch and on the scorecard against APOEL, and he did so in convincing style, scoring a brace and helping Real Madrid qualify for the knockout stages.
But the highlight of the game came in the first half when Real Madrid were already 1-0 up, thanks to a brilliant volley from Luka Modric, when Ronaldo was through on goal, but slotted the ball to Benzema, instead of taking the shot himself. Benzema then coolly passed the ball into the net to double Real Madrid’s advantage.

You would have normally expected Ronaldo to take a shot on goal at such a stage, especially when he is desperate for goals, but that bit of unselfishness would come as a refreshing surprise for all Madrid fans.
And what more, Ronaldo managed to find himself on the score sheet in the second half, scoring a brace to absolutely bash their Cypriot opponents.
