New Zealand captain Kane Williamson became only the second captain to win the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in a Cricket World Cup. Having led his team to the final of this World Cup, Williamson was one of the best batsmen in the tournament.
In 10 ODIs, Williamson scored 578 runs at an average of 82.57 and a strike rate of 74.96 including two centuries and half-centuries each. His record also made him end the tournament as the fourth-highest run-scorer (behind Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Shakib Al Hasan).
Williamson’s prowess in the tournament can be judged from him scoring more than 225 runs than the next best New Zealand batsman in Ross Taylor (350). From providing rescue acts to standing alone for New Zealand, the 28-year old cricketer was seen doing it all for his team.
#KaneWilliamson in PC asked if everyone should be a gentleman like him:
Everyone is allowed to be who they want to be & I think that’s the beauty of this world. Everyone should be the best they can be.#CWC19Final #ENGvsNZ

A recent video which is doing the rounds on social media platform Twitter is of Williamson just before receiving his ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. Perhaps, it was him not scoring maximum runs in the tournament which made him react in the way he did.
However, what played a major role in him winning the award was also his captaincy and the way he carried his team throughout the tournament.
