WATCH: LeBron James and Kyrie Irving use old Cavs handshake; indulge in conversation

It’s been less than 2 years since Kyrie Irving said he did not want to play with LeBron James and forced a move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics. Between then and now there has been so much that has happened that it feels like a decade ago that the two All-Stars were storming back from a 3-1 deficit against the Warriors and winning the NBA title.

After it seemed like Kyrie and LeBron would never mend fences given the ugly separation through trade demand, January 2019 threw a surprise as Kyrie, unprompted spoke about calling James to apologize for being the young player who wanted it all, in the midst of his frustrations towards the young Celtics players who he seemed to constantly call out after every loss. James responded by tagging Kyrie on his instagram story calling Kyrie fam(ily).

So, a reunion between James and Kyrie that seemed absolutely impossible, just a few months back, became a full blown rumor. Since then Kyrie, who had previously said he was waiting for the summer to commit to Celtics as a Free Agent, has gone back and refused to commit to the Celtic when asked, saying he did not owe anyone sh*t and he would do what is best for him. What is best for him is as good a guess as any.

While most rumors point to a possible union between Irving and Kevin Durant at the Madison Square Garden, with the New York Knicks, but is it possible that Kyrie ends up on the Lakers instead? Signs after the game between Lakers and Celtics earlier today seemed to point that the situation might not be as improbable as thought before.

The Lakers despite a 30 point triple double from LeBron James lost to the Celtics 120-107 as Lakers played with LeBron and essentially their G-League squad with all of Lonzo, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma not suiting up for the struggling Lakers. LeBron and the squad kept it close for most part to their credit, but Kyrie made a series of tough shots throughout the fourth quarter to help Celtics pull away and win.

After the game Kyrie and LeBron dapped up with their old routine and exchanged words with grins on both their faces. While this may be absolutely nothing, it does point to the relation between the two being very healthy now, thereby making it improbable to rule out a future coming together of the two and possibly Anthony Davis.

Check out the video:

When asked about the possibility of LeBron missing the playoffs for the first time since his sophomore season, Kyrie said “I feel for him,” citing the Lakers’ injuries around James.

“LeBron has always been a championship contender. Not to qualify for the playoffs is hard. I can only imagine. Whenever you don’t get a chance to do that, and you’ve been doing it for the last, what, 10 years, getting to the playoffs? I feel for him.”

While all of this may mean nothing, it also makes it impossible to rule out anything. A Lakers core of Kyrie, LeBron and Davis is a frightful thought, especially since KD’s possible move away from the Warriors means the NBA might finally be open for contention.
