With just 6 points separating the two sides and Antoinne Griezmann catching fire in the last two games, the Barcelona vs Atletico game was always supposed to be a mouth watering encounter.
And that was exactly how it started, with Barcelona and Atletico getting on the ball and trying to make things happen.
Messi had made a few incisive runs for Barcelona but was being closed down by at least two defenders on all occasions.
However, it was in the 26th minute, where Messi, with one of his trade mark runs, ran at the Atletico defence, and was caught by one of the defenders, providing him with a great chance to score with a free kick.
The position of the free kick was almost perfect for Messi, but the hard part was getting the ball above the wall and then imparting sufficient dip on it for it to sneak under the bar.
Messi stepped up, wrapped his foot around the ball and did what was supposed to be done, landing the ball into the top corner and sending the Nou Camp into a frenzy.

Barcelona have settled into their own in the game, but Iniesta has been forced off the pitch with an apparent hamstring injury. Andre Gomes has been brought in for Iniesta and Barca fans would be hoping that the youngster can do a job for Barcelona tonight.
