Tottenham Vs Liverpool: Alisson wants to emulate Jerzy Dudek's Istanbul heroics in Champions League final

Alisson Becker has said that he is looking to emulate the Istanbul heroics of Jerzy Dudek.

Liverpool will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on June 1. Alisson Becker has been arguably Liverpool’s best player in the Champions League this season, and wants to continue the same.

His last-minute save against Napoli will be remembered if the Reds manage to clinch their sixth Champions League. He also made many saves against Napoli in the away game which kept them in the game until Lorenzo Insigne scored in the final minute. He made some crucial saves against Porto, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona to keep his side in the tie.

Fourteen years ago, Liverpool made a historic comeback against AC Milan at Istanbul. The Reds were 3-0 down in the half time, but managed to level parity before winning the game on penalties. Liverpool shot-stopper Jerzy Dudek was scintillating that day and made a save of Andriy Shevchenko which is unexplainable till date.

He was also the hero as he managed to save two penalties to clinch the Champions League on penalties. Alisson Becker wants to emulate the Polish International heroics to end the trophy drought at Anfield.

“I watched the game in 2005. It was a historic game, two great goalkeepers – Dudek and Dida, who is a great friend of mine,” said Alisson.

“Dudek was sensational, not just with the saves during the game to keep Liverpool in it but also the heroics with the penalties. In our profession, you’re either the hero or the villain, with no in between.”

Alisson explains why he will not celebrate when the opponent goalkeeper commits a mistake.

“It’s a mix of feelings,” he added.

“Obviously you’re really happy to have scored, but you have to sympathise with your goalkeeping colleague, because that could be any of us.

“None of us are immune to it, you have to be on the pitch, so I’m not able to celebrate a goal that comes from a goalkeeping error in the same way I celebrate other goals.”
