Liverpool had a brilliant season last time around. They came second in the English Premier League, falling short of the trophy by an agonising one point. Liverpool notched up 97 points against Manchester City’s 98. However, Liverpool put the disappointment behind them to win their 6th Champions League trophy. Unfortunately, things haven’t picked up since.

The team from Merseyside have only picked up 2 wins from their 6 friendlies this summer. They notched up their 3rd in the 3-1 win against French side Lyon. However, Liverpool saw disappointment in the game too as their goal keeper Alison conceded a penalty through an awful error within just 3 minutes.

Alisson failed to catch, what should have been a simple take. The Brazilian failed to cleanly collect a rather harmless cross. Moussa Dembele saw an opportunity and tried to carry the ball to the empty net. However, a panicked Allison bought the striker down, earning a yellow for himself and penalty to Lion.

Memphis Depay took the penalty and managed to convert it, giving Lyon the lead. Fortunately for the Keeper, the fumble didn’t prove costly as Roberto Firmino scored a goal in the 17th minute to level the score before Lyon handed Liverpool the lead with an own goal.
Liverpool added another goal in the 53rd minute to win the match 3-1. However, if Liverpool aim to dethrone Manchester City from the EPL perch, they will have to make sure they don’t make such callous mistakes.
