WATCH: Niki Lauda makes first public statement after undergoing lung transplant
Niki Lauda has been battling hard, trying to recover quickly from the lung transplant that he had to undergo post his family vacation in Ibiza, where he fell sick and had to be rushed to Vienna to be treated by his doctors.
The doctors undertook a lung transplant surgery, one that went well, but forced Lauda into nearly 3 months of rehabilitation before he could start to function normally.
The doctors had conceded that the transplant went through smoothly and was extremely important, because Lauda’s health was in really bad condition.
Reports had come in that Lauda could make an appearance during the Abu Dhabi GP, but Helmut Marko had revealed earlier that he wouldn’t be able to do so as he is a little low on energy.

“He’s doing much better, but he just does not yet have the strength to be here,” Marko said.
But today, Lauda made a special video, his first public statement since undergoing that lung transplant.
He congratulated the Mercedes team on their 5th consecutive championship and showered praise on Lewis too.
He then went onto give an update on his health and how the support of the fans has helped him get out of bed quicker.
He concluded by saying that he would be back in action soon and would work hard with the Mercedes team to get a 6th consecutive championship.
