Arsenal played Doncaster Rovers at the Emirates last night in their first match of the Carabao Cup. In spite of a resilient performance from the under dogs, Arsenal finally got through with a solitary goal from Theo Walcott.

Walcott scored with a beautiful lob after a sweet pass from Alexis Sanchez. All in all, it was not a very convincing display from the Gunners who were expected to steam roll Doncaster Rovers.

But the highlight of the match came early on in the game, when Olivier Giroud hit the crossbar after an incredible bicycle kick.

Jack Wilshere, who was making his first start since the 2015/16 season, was instrumental in Arsenal’s performance through out and played a lovely dink for Giroud.

The French striker then turned in mid-air to hit a sweet bicycle which was just inches away from becoming the goal of the season. Giroud, who is stuck on 99 Arsenal goals, could hardly have scored a better goal to celebrate his century with Arsenal.

For Arsenal, Wilshere’s performance through out the 90 minutes would have been a huge plus for Arsene Wenger. For all the talk of needing a new midfielder, Arsenal still have the services of Jack Wilshere.

The English midfielder, who was touted as a future Arsenal captain, has been ravaged by injuries so far. The positive though is that he is still only 25 years of age, which is why he still has the time to fulfill his obvious potential.

Let’s hope that this will finally be his year!
