Quinton de Kock imitates MS Dhoni: The Blitz’s captain took a leaf out of the legendary Indian wicket-keeper’s book in MSL 2019.

During the ninth match of the ongoing second season of the Mzansi Super League between Durban Heat and Cape Town Blitz in Durban, Cape Town Blitz captain Quinton de Kock imitated veteran India wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to run-out Durban Heat all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo.

It all happened on the last delivery of the 18th over when Phehlukwayo hit a Sisanda Migala delivery towards Marques Ackerman at long-off. While Ackerman couldn’t hold on to a difficult catching chance, he was quick enough to get up and throw the ball back to de Kock.

Needing 28 runs to win off 13 balls, Heat batsmen thought of running a couple of runs. Phehlukwayo, who was running back to the striker’s end, was perhaps undone by de Kock’s shrewdness.

Playacting that the ball isn’t coming to his end initially, de Kock immediately deflected the ball on to the stumps to deceive the batsman and eventually find him short of his crease at the striker’s end.

Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 17th over, Phehlukwayo ended up scoring 5 (4) as Durban lost the match by 10 runs after scoring 164/7 in 20 overs. Wihan Lubbe, who scored a praiseworthy 83 (42) with the help of seven fours and five sixes, top-scored for the hosts.

With bowling figures of 4-0-23-2, veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.

It was Durban captain Dane Vilas won the toss and put Cape Town in to bat early on. In their allotted quota of 20 overs, Blitz posted 174/6 on the back of Ackerman and Asif Ali scoring 43 each.
