WATCH: Rohit Sharma thanks team management for letting him open the batting vs South Africa

Rohit Sharma thanks team management: The Indian opening batsman expressed gratitude towards the team management for the promotion.

During the first day of the first Test of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of India in Visakhapatnam, India opening batsman Rohit Sharma scored his maiden century as an opening batsman to justify his promotion at the top of the order.

It was decided that Sharma would open the batting after Lokesh Rahul was dropped from the squad citing his poor form in Test matches. The move was also a way to accommodate Sharma in the Test XI which otherwise was seeming to be a daunting task.

Speaking during the press conference after Day 1, Sharma revealed that he was told about his new batting promotion during the tour of West Indies. “Talk about me opening was there for long. In West Indies, I was told it is going to happen now. I have been preparing mentally for two years to open in Tests,” Sharma was quoted as saying.

Sharma also expressed gratitude towards the team management for letting him open the batting today. Sharma was also vocal about clearly communicating with the team management regarding his new role.

“I wanted to take the opportunity and I was pretty clear in my communication to the management and they were very clear as to what they wanted of me. I’m pretty grateful and thankful to the team management for giving me this opportunity,” Sharma said.
