Virgil van Dijk reaction to Sokratis

Virgil van Dijk reaction to Sokratis: The Liverpool captain defended Mohamed Salah after Sokratis confronted Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool registered an emphatic 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield last night. A hat-trick from Roberto Firmino, and a goal each from Salah and Mane rounded-up a perfect night for Liverpool, who extended their lead to 9 points at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side conceded a shock lead in the 11th minute as Ainsley Maitland-Niles opened the goalscoring for Arsenal, but Liverpool recovered quickly through Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian scored two goals within 90 seconds to give Liverpool the lead in the game. Mane scored the third goal, and Mohamed Salah won a penalty towards the closing minutes of first half to score the fourth goal.

It was then when Sokratis confronted Salah, seemingly talking about the penalty. Virgil van Dijk, the Liverpool captain, then defended the Egyptian forward.

Virgil van Dijk reaction to Sokratis:

The Liverpool defender has arguably been the best signing for the club in a long time. He has made a huge impact in his limited time at the club, and emerged as one of the best defenders in the league so far.

After Sokratis confronted Salah at halftime, van Dijk interrupted him and stood up for the Liverpool forward.

Here’s the video:

With this loss, Arsenal are now five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who defeated Crystal Palace earlier today. N’golo Kante’s goal was the sole difference between the two sides at Selhurst Park.

Even when Liverpool put five past Arsenal, van Dijk’s animated conversation with Sokratis was one of the major talking points for Liverpool’s fans.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the incident:
