During the 22nd match of the ongoing second season of the Mzansi Super League between Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans in Cape Town, Cape Town Blitz’s fast bowler Wahab Riaz bowled a breathtaking yorker to uproot the stumps of Tshwane Spartans all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe.
It all happened on the fourth delivery of the penultimate over when Riaz’s toe-crushing yorker uprooted the middle and off stump of van der Merwe.
In what would have easily been the “ball of the tournament”, Riaz overstepping on the same delivery meant that he had to re-bowl the delivery.
With the visitors needing 22 runs off nine deliveries, a free-hit could have changed the course of the match but Riaz made sure that van der Merwe doesn’t dictate terms on the free-hit.

Chasing a 158-run target, Spartans were restricted to 142/7 in 20 overs as the hosts registered a 15-run victory. Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the ninth over, Spartans batsman Pite van Biljon top-scored for his team with 62 (42) with the help of four fours and three sixes.
Riaz, who was denied a dismissal in the penultimate over, registered impressive bowling figures of 3-0-18-2. However, it was veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn (4-0-10-3) who bowled his team to a victory last night.
After Cape Town captain Quinton de Kock won the toss and chose to bat, his team posted a mediocre 157/5 in 20 overs on the back of batsman David Bedingham’s third T20 half-century, 53 (40), with the help of five fours and a six. With bowling figures of 4-0-30-3, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi was the highest wicket-taker for the visiting team.
